From the dynamic sophistication of Seoul to the tranquil beauty of Nami Island, experience a seamless blend of culture, nature, and refined moments—thoughtfully designed for meaningful connections and unforgettable memories.

South Korea is modern, efficient, and welcoming—but what makes your trip truly enjoyable is understanding and respecting the culture behind it.

The Do's & Don'ts

Do’s

Show Respect & Use Politeness

  • A slight bow when greeting is appreciated

  • Use both hands when giving or receiving items (money, cards, gifts)

  • Be courteous—respect is a big part of Korean culture

Follow Public Etiquette

  • Keep quiet on trains and buses

  • Give priority seats to elderly, pregnant women, and those in need

  • Queue properly when boarding

Practice Dining Etiquette

  • Wait for the eldest to start eating first

  • Use chopsticks properly (no pointing or playing)

  • Say “잘 먹겠습니다 (Jal meokgesseumnida)” before meals. This is a polite Korean phrase said before a meal, literally translating to "I will eat well". It acts as a polite expression of gratitude to the cook or the person treating you, similar to saying "Thanks for the food" or "I will enjoy this meal"

Be Clean & Organized

  • Carry small trash with you (bins are limited)

  • Follow recycling rules

  • Keep public spaces tidy

Dress Neatly (Especially in Cities)

  • Casual is fine, but Koreans tend to dress well

  • Smart casual works best in places like Seoul

Don’ts

Don’t Be Loud in Public

  • Avoid loud conversations, especially on public transport

  • Keep phone calls minimal

Don’t Tip

  • Tipping is not customary and may even confuse staff

  • Good service is already expected

Don’t Smoke Anywhere

  • Smoke only in designated areas

  • Smoking on streets can lead to fines

Don’t Pour Your Own Drink (In Social Settings)

  • Pour for others, and they will pour for you

  • Use both hands when pouring or receiving

Don’t Ignore Elders

  • Always show respect:

    • Let them go first

    • Offer your seat

    • Use polite language when possible

Don’t Write Names in Red Ink

  • Traditionally associated with death

  • Avoid using red when writing someone’s name

How South Korea Practice Sustainable Tourism

Low-Carbon Transport & Smart Cities

  • Extensive, affordable public transport in Seoul (subway, buses, KTX)

  • Growing fleet of electric/hybrid buses and bike lanes

  • Cashless systems reduce paper waste

Impact: Less congestion, lower emissions, easy car-free travel

Protected Parks & Managed Access

  • Strict conservation in parks like Seoraksan National Park and Hallasan National Park

  • Designated trails, seasonal limits, and ranger enforcement

Impact: Preserves biodiversity while keeping nature accessible

Cultural Preservation & Community Tourism

  • Protection of heritage sites like Bukchon Hanok Village and Jeonju Hanok Village

  • Temple stay programs support local communities and traditions

Impact: Tourism funds preservation and authentic local livelihoods

Advanced Waste Management & Recycling

  • Mandatory waste separation (recyclables, food waste, general waste)

  • “Pay-as-you-throw” system encourages less waste

Impact: High recycling rates and cleaner public spaces

Green Destinations & Eco-Islands

  • Eco-focused regions like Jeju Island and Suncheon Bay Wetland Reserve

  • Investment in renewable energy and conservation projects

Impact: Balanced tourism growth with environmental protection

Government-Led Sustainable Policies

  • National campaigns promoting “Responsible Travel”

  • Smart tourism initiatives (data, crowd control, digital guides)

  • Continuous investment in green infrastructure

Impact: Systematic, long-term sustainability strategy

What Makes South Korea Stand Out?

  • Strong government leadership & policy enforcement

  • Seamless public transport reduces carbon footprint

  • Balance of modern innovation + cultural preservation

  • High public awareness of cleanliness and responsibility

Challenges

  • Overtourism in hotspots (e.g., Seoul, Jeju) during peak seasons

  • Managing tourist behavior in residential heritage areas
